Welcome to Portland Maine’s Historic Social Club and Event Space

Woodfords Club was organized on September 19, 1913, and the clubhouse, designed by famed Portland architect John Calvin Stevens and his son John Howard, opened its doors one year later. For many years it was primarily a social club. Today, you can rent this charming and historic building for private or public events.

Though the club has expanded to include rentals, the social organization continues and evolves, bringing an ever more diverse community together, as Portland grows and changes. Members then and now enjoy regular dinners together, and often congregate over a variety of games.

Looking for a Rental?

Our historic clubhouse is available for you to hold your wedding, family celebration, business meeting, lessons, and other events. Rentals are available on a one-time or recurring basis. To learn more about our Banquet Hall or Meeting Rooms, select Rentals below.

Discover the Camaraderie of Membership

Woodfords has been a social club in Portland for more than a century, with a focus on being non-sectarian and non-political. Here at the club, we welcome people from all walks of life, and enjoy spending time together over dinners, entertainment, pool, board games, card games, or our vintage candlepin bowling alley. Come get to know us and find out if you’d like to join the club!

Events Open to the Public

Though we are a private social club, we often hold events for the community or that are open to the public. Click through to see what upcoming events you might attend at Woodfords.

"We hosted our wedding here and absolutely loved it!! The venue was perfect, full kitchen, tables and chairs, speakers, all included. Very clean. My dad loved it so much he even joined the club afterwards!! Bonus: the parking lot is huge and location is great! We had a blast! Our guests danced all night. Thanks again, Woodfords Club!" - Sarah Donohoe

"I'm a third generation member of the Woodfords Club (40+ years). I've had great experiences, including Friday meetings with fine meals and programs and challenging activities such as pool, bowling and card games (some of which I now play year-round). Above all, I have met some great people and made new friends." - Brian Wallace

"I joined the Club many years ago and have seen many women, men and families welcomed into membership since. I have enjoyed serving on the board, meeting new friends, playing pool upstairs, bowling, and chef-cooked Friday night dinners with entertainment!" - Linda Wyman
