New Internet, Wifi At Club, & Web Host

The Technology Committee has been busy lately! Our wifi has lately been an object of frustration, for its low speed, dead zones throughout the building, and when large events were in the hall, the internet would slow to a near-halt with the influx of visitors. After spending months consulting with Spectrum, Fidium, and GoNetSpeed about their fiber offerings, speeds, deals they might offer our small-but-mighty club, the committee recommended GoNetSpeed, and the Board agreed. GoNetSpeed is a local fiber company, and though smaller than Fidium and Spectrum, their customer service was recently rated nearly top in the nation by Consumer Reports! And considering that we are a volunteer run organization, it was important to have a strong partner for our technology efforts.          

Our hope is that by providing quality internet, we will be able to attract and retain excellent rental opportunities. 

In December, GoNetSpeed installed something called a mesh network, and placed the nodes throughout the Club to ensure that we'd have strong speeds and no wifi dead zones in the building. The Network and password remain the same. 

Additionally, as you were recently notified, we had to change our Members-Only hosting service. Our minutes, calendar, rules, roster, and budgets are all available for member review in the Members Only section of the website. Because it includes private information, it's important to keep it secure from trolls and other bad actors, which is why you need to sign up and get a password to access it.

Unfortunately, the company that used to host our log-in site raised their prices significantly, without any increases in service. And since we launched our new website three years ago, Squarespace newly offers the same service-- for free. The transition was completed last month.
